The Chalfont Mens have dominated their matches this season, and last Sunday's result was another positive win for our team. The pairs consisting of Alan and Baneesh, Andrew H and Lak, and Chris and Keith certainly made up a formidable selection against HCA. And so it was that the resulting win of 7-2 to Beaconsfield notches up another win for Chalfont Mens - well done guys!

After much coaching and encouragement from Mike, the Wycombe Ladies - Hannah, Anna, Katie and Helen - took up the challenge on Sunday 16th December playing against Bohemians who proved to be a strong opposition. Our ladies played really well together and there was plenty of good attacking and defensive play, although not always consist. Helen and Katie notched up the first win after a nail biting rubber which went to 3 games leaving everyone on the edge of the seat when they came back from being 20-17 down to turn it around and win.
A second close match for Hannah and Anna also resulted in another 3 game rubber, but despite strong play by our pair, the result was a win to Bohemians. The opposition had a couple of extremely powerful and agile players who proved difficult to get anything past. The last game of the match saw Katie and Anna battling hard after the split and again another 3 game rubber which our ladies managed to win. The overall result was 4-2 to Bohemians. Great play by our ladies who can only continue to improve in the New Year.Â

Wycombe Mixed have Mixed Success
There are a couple of results to report from the Wycombe Mixed teams. The first was from 2nd December against Isis A where Hannah, Mike, Claire, Andy, Anika and Lak took to the court at the Wycombe Badminton Centre to see if they could maintain there run of success. Whilst Mike and Hannah had a bit of a wobbly start, they soon settled in and took their rubbers. Anika and Lak fought hard to try and win their games, but every time Isis upped their game and just kept take the last few points to win. A similar fate fell to Andy and Claire despite their best efforts. And eventually the match went to Isis 6-3.
The Wycombe Mixed were out again the following Thursday (6th December) taking on East Berks at Newlands in Maidenhead. This time the team consisted of Mike, Hannah, Adam, Jen, Chris M and Katie. Adam and Jen continue to be their strongest pair and although they dropped one game, they retained the rubber and went onto win all 3. Mike and Hannah looked as if they were going to win all their games, but it didn't quite managed it and notched up only 2 wins. Chris and Katie's fortunes were not so favourable after a rushed first game which they lost, the second rubber whilst much tighter just slipped through their fingers. The third rubber did go Chris and Katie's way, and eventually the team managed to add another win to this season's results of 6-3 to Beaconsfield.
Keep it coming guys, and we look forward to more of the same in 2013. Next match is for the Chalfont Mixed on Sunday 9th December - so good luck to that team.

Nearly but not quite!
The Chalfont Mixed team were out again on Friday 23rd November playing at Dr Challoners High School against Chiltern Feathers B. This team were made up of Andrew H and Helen, Baneesh and Anika and Keith and Julie. The games were all very close and there was a really good atmosphere amongst both teams which made for a really enjoyable evening of badminton.
The overall score was 4-5 to Chiltern Feathers which does not reflect the closeness of the scores with 5 of the rubbers all going to 3 games. Well done to Keith and Julie who managed to notch up 2 wins for the team, whilst the others successfully managed one a piece - should have been more, but there's always next time!

Wycombe Mixed Dominate
Great result for the Wycombe Mixed team who played against Isis B at the Wycombe Badminton Centre. It was always going to be a long evening with play taking place predominantly on one court, but Mike and Hannah were clearly determined to make it even longer by taking their first game to 30-29! There was some dispute over scores but as ever our players simply kept their cool, stayed calm and got on court for the next game whilst conceding that first game to Isis went on to take the rubber. And having started in strong style, the evening continued thus.
Adam and Jen had a slightly slower than normal start, but quickly revved up and took all their rubbers. Ros and Chris also managed to get into some controversy over points which happened at rather a cruicial moment and ultimately allowed Isis to take a rubber. Their last game went the same way, so Isis managed to put 2 wins on the score sheet, but overall Wycombe Mixed took the win at 7-2. Well gone to all.
